Chengdu University
Chengdu University (CDU) is a full-time institution of higher education, founded in 1978 and run by Chengdu People's Government. Since its foundation over the course of nearly 30 years, CDU has grown into a comprehensive city university with the harmonious development of Engineering, Literature, Management, Economics, Law, Pedagogy, Science, and Agriculture.
 
Located in Shiling Historical & Cultural Scenic Spot in East Chengdu, CDU now covers a total area of 927,000 square meters, with a total constructed area of 450,000 square meters. In 2006, Chengdu People's Government made a decision to acquire another 933,000 square meters nearby to expand the campus for CDU. At present the design and construction of the new campus has commenced. In the near future, a brand-new university with modern facilities will stand in the east of Chengdu.
 
CDU now has 18 faculties, namely, Faculty of Industry Manufacturing, Faculty of Urban & Rural Construction, Faculty of Information Science & Technology, Faculty of Software Industry, Faculty of Electronic & Information Engineering, Faculty of Bio-industry, Faculty of Economics & Political-Law, Faculty of Tourism & Culture Industry, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Literature & Journalism, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Culture, Faculty of Art, Faculty of Medicine & Nursing, Faculty of Normal Education, Faculty of Preschool Education, Faculty of Continuous Education and Faculty of International Education, as well as the Physical Education Department. More than 60 specialties are offered to the undergraduates and junior college students. CDU has more than 1600 teachers and researchers and approximately 30,000 full-time students.
CDU has three periodicals: JOURNALS OF CHENGDU UNIVERSITY (Natural Science Edition, Social Science Edition, Educational Science Edition), LIBERAL ARTS FANS and SCIENCE FANS
 
Recently, with continuous improvement of personnel cultivation as well as the enhancement of academic research, CDU has won fifty-seven state-level, province-level, and also city-level academic awards, and it has also been granted one state-level teaching award and eleven province-level teaching awards. CDU is focused on the cultivation of practical skills, providing tens of thousands of graduates to the society for local economic development, most of whom have become the backbone within their professions.
Looking forward to the future, CDU, student-orientated, will take the cultivation of qualified graduates with practical skills as its goal, the service to the local economy as its task, and will continuously deepen the teaching reform and make great efforts to construct a harmonious campus so as to build up a municipal comprehensive university with a characteristics of our own.
